It’s official! New federal reimbursement rates are now available at the federal register. Not to worry, we have the breakdown for you here, plus some exciting news about the Area Eligibility waiver for homes!

However, we know what you’re wondering, and yes: Rates have been updated in Minute Menu CX and Minute Menu HX. You can now begin processing your July claims.

Read on to learn more about the changes for 2021-2022, plus how we are helping homes sponsors apply the USDA Area Eligibility waiver.

Home Sponsors Saw the Biggest Increase

First, the biggest win : The administrative rates for home sponsors increased by about $5/home! Wow! That’s a big win for sponsors of homes!

Other Increases Are More Standard

The other federal reimbursement rates increases are more typical, and, in some cases, lower than last year:

  • Tier 1 & Tier 2 rates for homes increased only by about $0.01 per meal.
  • Center rates rose just a bit more—around $0.02 for reduced and $0.04 paid.

Area Eligibility Waiver for Homes: Now – June 30, 2022

If your state accepted it, the Area Eligibility waiver for homes is now in effect until June 30, 2022. This means that all homes in participating states can receive Tier 1 rates. Do you have homes who are concerned about the tax implication of higher reimbursement? Send them to Tom Copeland’s Q&A and recorded webinar, where he talks about just that—don’t let your providers throw away extra money!

Now, how are you going to apply this waiver?

Well, if your state has accepted the waiver, it’s easy! With our most recent release, we defaulted all providers to the Tier 1 rates. This will allow sponsors in participating states to immediately begin processing this claim at the Tier 1 rates without re-tiering their providers (unless your state requires you to do so).

However, we know that there is a possibility some states may reject this waiver, so we added a new preference that allows you to reimburse Tier 2 and Mixed Tier providers at the usual rates.

  1. Set new preference O.008 to N.
  2. Run the Provider List Export File to get a list of providers currently set to Tier 2 and Mixed Tier.
  3. Re-tier the providers on this list by school area. You can either select an existing school (if we have school data) or create a school named Area Eligibility waiver. Set the End Date to 6/30/2022.
